David Lloyd ... G'day ya Pommie B...! and other cricketing experiences
David Lloyd played cricket for Lancashire and England - he is no relation of Clive Lloyd.
David Lloyd commentates on cricket for Sky Sports and for BBC's Test Match Special - he does not play tennis or commentate at Wimbledon.
Having removed these two areas of potential misunderstanding, most cricket enthusiasts will of course recognise the man with the unmistakable Lancastrian accent and a light-hearted approach to cricket which has served him well as player, umpire, broadcaster and also one of the most popular speakers on the after-dinner circuit.
After a successful Test series against India and Pakistan in the summer of 1974 David Lloyd was delighted to be selected for the winter's tour to Australia. "G'day ya pommie b !" was probably the most affectionate greeting that he received from his hosts and this warm hospitality was extended to the field of play by Messrs Lillee and Thomson. Like several other batsmen on that tour David's Test career never recovered from this barrage of attention but happily his sense of humour survived intact.
G'day yo Pommie b......! is a highly entertaining collection of personal memories of over twenty years of cricket and cricketers from someone who proves as skilful with the pen as he is with the microphone - a genuine humourist. (Source: dust cover hardback book 1992)
